I Wonder
Say hello to him for me, new folks.
I wonder if he lived a happy life
I wonder if he found solace within his home
For the kitchen window frames a picture
Of wind-blown curtains on canvases of childhood bliss
Imprinted in the narratives we weave
That whisper to us
This must be love manifest.
Ding.
Another cellphone sings
A song unsought, a fractured rhyme.
Amidst the chime of modernity
He limps back to mind.
I wonder where he is today
Years since I've seen him last
On the bus, hobbling pass
Our shared apartment building
Still standing on its path.
Ding.
The bus bell too chimes in
I think, say hello to him for me, new folks
For these tales I speak carry years of wonderment
Entwined with the depths of his silence.
